If you are unable to physically attend your lesson in person due to illness or snow emergency, etc. here is the checklist for getting ready for the online lesson option:
ONLINE LESSON CHECK LIST:
1. I will need to know in advance that you would like to do an online session…the more advance notice I have, the more I can have ready to go for you (including a recording of your accompaniments for your songs if you don’t already have them recorded).
2. You will need to have two devices ready – one for our video session with a webcam (laptop, iPad, desktop) and the best microphone you have available in a good location with plenty of light and space so you can comfortably appear in the video in a standing position. Have your other (playback) device connected to a good quality external (Bluetooth or wired) speaker so the volume can balance with your singing and be picked up by the microphone you will be using.
3. You’ll need to download the free Zoom app to the device you will use for the webcam. I will send an invitation link to your email address to join me for your session on Zoom, so let me know which email you use to set Zoom up on your device. Skype or FaceTime are other options, but Zoom is much more stable for sound and video, so it will most likely be the best plan to download it well in advance and have it ready to go. NOTE: Zoom works best with Google Chrome rather than Safari, etc.
4. PLEASE SET UP FOR YOUR VIDEO 10-15 minutes in advance of your lesson time so we are ready to go! I may be going from teaching a live lesson in studio to popping over to the computer with no downtime in between, so the more set up we are in advance, the better!
5. Because there is an expected lag time in sound/video, you will be doing a lot of a cappella singing with call and response being our main method for warmups. Bring your best listening ears, too, as only one of us can make sound at any moment. Expect the pace of the lesson to be a little more slow, and bring patience to deal with any internet connection issues and/or lag time.
Hope to see you live and in person this week for your lesson. If not, let me know so we can have everything set up accordingly.
